About Notre Dame Education Center
The Notre Dame Education Center was founded in 1992 by the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur. The Sisters had operated Cardinal Cushing High School in South Boston, and when that school closed, they decided to stay and continue to serve the community’s educational needs. NDEC was established as a comprehensive adult education center. More important, the Center provides a diverse, caring community in which students are empowered to develop their full potential as scholars, workers, and citizens.
Although NDEC students come from more than thirty countries and have very different backgrounds, they share one goal: to use education as a tool to change their lives, improve their families’ futures, and contribute to their communities. NDEC’s staff is committed to helping students achieve their goals and works collaboratively to provide an outstanding education through four programs: Workforce Readiness and Career Pathways; Adult Basic Education and HiSET Preparation; English for Speakers of Other Languages; and the Alternative High School Diploma. In addition, NDEC is the hub for distance and online learning for ESOL students. The Center also offers citizenship classes, along with a variety of customized supports to complement and strengthen these programs and services.
NDEC’s students are driven to accomplish their individual missions, and the Center is committed to growing, adapting, and evolving to meet changing needs. Our relationship with our students doesn’t end at graduation. Students are always welcome to return to the Center to learn new skills or to brush up on existing ones.
